  • How do I pay money into my cash ISA with Egg?
Please be aware that, if you pay money into your cash ISA with Egg and it takes you over your subscription limit (currently £5,340 in this tax year) we'll be unable to accept the payment. If this was to happen, we would return the full payment to the account from which it was sent, within 10 business days; we'd let you know that we had done this by sending you a secure message.

There are several ways to pay money into your cash ISA with Egg:

    1. Debit card

To make a debit card payment, the debit card must be held in your name.

Log in to 'your accounts' and then:
    • Either click on the 'Move money' tab at the top of the page and then choose the option to 'Make a debit card payment to an Egg account'.
    • Or, on the 'Your money' page, click 'view' next to your cash ISA balance - this will take you to the 'Your Egg Cash ISA statement' page. Select 'Pay money in' from the menu on the left of the page and follow the instructions.
Payments made by debit card will be credited to your account on the day of request if the request is made before 8.30pm. Otherwise, the payment will be credited on the day after the request.

    2. Faster Payments (electronic transfer)

To make a payment to your cash ISA with Egg:

Ask your external bank to transfer money to:
    • Sort code: 40-61-99.
    • Account number: your 8-digit cash ISA number.
If we receive your request before 6pm on a business day, the payment will arrive by the end of the next business day, otherwise it will take up to 2 business days to clear.

    3. Faster Payments

    • Sort code: 40-61-99.

Faster Payments received by us before 11.45pm on a business day will earn interest from that day. Otherwise, the payment will earn interest from the next business day.

    4. CHAPS payment (same day transfer)

To make a CHAPS payment to your cash ISA with Egg:

Ask your external bank to transfer money by 'CHAPS' to:
    • Sort code: 40-02-50.
    • Our account number: 11049151
They also need to quote your 8-digit cash ISA number.
The payment can be credited to your cash ISA on the business day that you request it, but you'll need to check your external bank's cut-off times.

Most banks and building societies charge for this type of payment.

    5. Direct Debit

You can use a Direct Debit to make regular payments to your cash ISA with Egg. Remember you're currently only allowed to deposit a maximum of £5,340 into your cash ISA in this tax year (6 April 2011 to 5 April 2012). In order to make the most of your allowance you could make regular/monthly payments of up to £445 per month.

Just remember your Direct Debit will automatically subscribe you to the cash ISA in the new tax year so, if you don't want to subscribe again in the new tax year, you will need to cancel it. We will send you an annual notice to remind you of the ISA rules before you subscribe to your ISA in the next tax year.

To set a new Direct Debit up online, or to amend or cancel an existing one, you must be the primary account holder for the account you want to pay from/have been paying from. Log in to 'your accounts' and then:

    • Either click on the 'Move money' tab at the top of the page and then choose the option to 'Set up or change your Direct Debit payments into Egg'. Select your cash ISA account and follow the instructions.

    • Or, on the 'Your money' page click 'view' next to your cash ISA balance - this will take you to the 'Your Egg Cash ISA statement' page. Select 'Regular deposits' from the menu on the left of the page and follow the instructions.
Please note, this type of payment takes five business days to clear.

    6. Transfer from an existing Egg Savings Account:

    To transfer money from an existing Egg Savings Account;
    • Log in to 'your accounts'.
    • Select the 'Move Money' tab at the top of the page.

The transfer will show on both accounts immediately.

How do I transfer money out of my cash ISA with Egg?
If you want to transfer money out of your cash ISA with Egg, you can transfer it to an account in your own name, or even accounts belonging to other people.

Before you make a transfer from your cash ISA with Egg, you might want to consider the following:

In the current tax year, the maximum contribution for a cash ISA is £5,340. If you withdraw money, any that you put back later will count against your cash ISA annual subscription limit in the year that you re-invest your money. So, for example, if in the current tax year you deposited £1,000 and then withdrew it during the same tax year, the remaining amount you can contribute in this tax year will be £4,340.

If you want to transfer one of your cash ISAs with Egg to another cash ISA provider you shouldn't make a withdrawal from your account or close it - instead, ask your new ISA provider to contact us to transfer it across to them. Your new ISA provider will need to write to us at:

Please note, as an added security measure we use payment verification to protect your account. This involves using text messages to verify online transfer requests to external accounts you haven't transferred money to before, so you'll need to have a valid mobile number registered with us.
